Avenging Sons Sergeant Castines DONE

Well, I've finally done the first official power armored model for my Avenging Sons project, Sergeant Castines of 1st Tactical Squad. Big thanks to 'Dynath' for the design of custom Avenging Sons shoulder pads, which you can see in these pics. I love the tiny detail of the roman numerals on the bottom left and bottom right of the right shoulder pads especially. He did this work a long time ago (over a year!), and I'm only just getting around to using them... Thanks dude!

I'm using some Black Templar bits to help evoke the 'medieval knight' vibe I'm trying to channel for this army. I'm keeping the color palette very tight with most things blue, silver, or black. I'm pleased with this model and plan to go full speed ahead. Better pics and a play by play paint scheme are both forthcoming- this is just a few quick shots to show him off :)

Comments and criticisms most welcome- thanks for taking the time to pop by and check it out!

  1. Very nicely painted. I like it a lot! =) You might want to consider some grey highlights or even grey gradient effect on the back of the banner to make it look wavy. But that would just be icing on the cake as it already looks so good on its own. Looking forward to the play-by-play.

  2. Nice, crisp and clean! Did you revert to metallic paint for the blade?

  3. Yeah for the Avenging Sons I'm not doing any airbrushed NMM type stuff. All metal is pretty simple- Vallejo Liquid Metal Silver with a liberal wash of GW Nuln Oil.

    Thanks for the feedback guys!

  4. Very nicely done. Can't wait to see the rest of the squad

  5. Those shoulder pads with the chapter symbol above the laurel is pimp!! Black helm for the sgt works well. Nicely done homes

  6. Fella have more swag then most people's Captain and now you will have problems ahead... the need of making your HQ choices more hardcore and battle worthy looking then your sergeant.

  7. Captain model should be no problems- there's a lot more bling to be had! ;)

  8. Hello there!
I have a question about your fantastic Iyanden army.
I was wondering, is there a reason you switched from cadmium orange to chrome orange for your oil washes?
I noticed in your description that you used cadmium on one Wraithlord and then chrome orange on another.

Nice Marine btw! :) Very cool chapter scheme!

    Cheers // Andreas

    1. Thanks for the compliments and checking out my work :)

I just mistyped the color name in one of the descriptions of the orange I used for the pin wash. I used Cadmium Orange from Windsor Newton's Artisan series. I'll be using the same this weekend when I get my Wraithknight :)

  9. Awesome! Can't wait to see you tackle the Wraithknight! (I got one incoming as well)
I'll keep my eyes on this blog :)
