Progress on Chaplain Kilrus

Well, I didn't get a whole lot done last night, but at least it's progress. I did a very light drybrush with Codex Grey over the whole model to pop up the detail and highlight the black power armor. I overbrushed a Vallejo Oily Steel basecoat over all the chains and the muzzle of the plasma pistol. Finally, I painted a Khemri Brown basecoat over all of the purity seals/oath papers festooned over this detail-rich model. We'll see what I can get done this evening after work...

Here's a couple more shots of the first test model, post Baal Red wash. Enjoy.

  1. I think the baal red really works. man, that chaplain is pretty detailed. might take a bit of time to paint him up nice. vallejo oily steel is nice ... kinda like a pre-weathered gunmetal

  2. Yeha, the chappy is going to be a multi-night project I'm afraid. It's a gorgeous model with tons of detail, and I'm in no big rush. I'm still waiting on my custom sculpted heads, so I've only got the chappy, dreads, and a few more assault marines to do at the moment. I guess I'll probably go ahead and get the dread drop pods from FW soon, and get those painted up as well...

  3. Have always loved that chap model. Looking good man. Can't wait to see it finished in typical jeff masterpainter standard. I really need to sit down with you and see/learn how you paint from the beginning. If you would entertain a young padawan....

  4. Padawan my ballz! Your hobby skills are quite sweet, my friend. However, I would love to share the hobby table with you tomorrow. I'm going to try and finish Kilrus and put together/convert my first Furioso dread...

  6. @Vuel- Dude, if you really want to get better spend some time with me and Khairul, and we'll help you out. I've tried to help you in the past and were resistant to my ideas- open yourself up a bit and give alternative methods a try. I'm not saying I'm the uber hobbyist by a long shot, but I'd be surprised if I don't have more than a couple techniques that could get you want you want. Bring a few models with you and let's chat about how we can usher you into the next level of kickassness...

    Up to you, dude. :)

  7. well..at that time it was my scouts, my precious scouts..please understand the reason for resistance :p

I'll bring along my 'Mephiston' and 'Darth Maul' this friday..maybe just 'Mephiston' since I'm unable to search for an acryllic rod just yet (I've found acryllic plates, but not rods..weird)..if I'm adventurous enough in these 2 days, maybe I'll be bringing along my 'Legion-knight'..

  8. Yeah, I get the reason, but you can't complain about your painting skills on one hand, while refusing help on the other and sound credible. If you like the way you paint, and don't care for help, then be happy with how you paint and it's all good. However, if you want to get better, you have to be willing to learn/work at it or it just won't happen...
